CreSer is a new organization created to provide resources and support for efforts to grow pesticide free food in the indigenous villages east of Chapala on Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest lake. We have started a large sustainable organic Food Farm on local donated land and will also collaborate with other organizations and projects in the area with similar goals.
The name (pronounced cray ser) is derived from 3 Spanish verbs, crecer (to grow), crear (to create) and creer (to believe). The name reflects our philosophy that growing food nourishes a community in many ways beyond providing meals. The guiding principle of CreSer is to provide resources and support to villagers until they are able to maintain food production themselves. They are starting at one location and will expand over time. They will work closely with a small paid group of villagers and will have a written agreement about what we will provide and what the expectations are on both sides of the agreement. The workers will be paid for their efforts until they are able to sell enough produce to replace what we provide as stipends. The remaining food will, from the beginning of the project, go to two large food assistance programs in the area. One of these programs, Cocina de Los Nińos (Kids Kitchens) provides a mid-day meal to over 700 children at 6 neighborhood locations. The children who come for a meal are orphaned or have parents who are unable to care for them. The other program provides a food package (despensa) to 90 families with a family member on kidney dialysis. Both food assistance programs have been funded by FoodBank Lakeside and are operated by Poco a Poco San Pedro Itzican. But now I am proud to say that doTERRA's non profit organization called the Healing Hands Foundation accepted our fundraising application to create an organic sustainable food farm for the people living in these villages! This means THEY WILL DOUBLE OUR DONATIONS UP TO $15k!!! Our goal is to fundraise for $30K with doTERRA's help! Please help us reach our goal and donate. |
